The B&H Light Meter Buying Guide

The Spectra SC-810A PhoRad Luminance Photometer is an easy-to-use handheld meter designed to allow Radiologists and Radiographers to measure light from sources like medical diagnostic displays, film light boxes, monitors and collimator light fields.

Just as in standard photography, the integrity of the viewing medium is paramount to accurate viewing of the image. In the case of Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology), for which the SC-810A was created, the stakes are considerably higher, insofar as correct readings can significantly reduce misdiagnosis.

The SC-810A is in compliance with Standard Practice for Radiographic Examination requirements. It measures luminance in candelas per meter squared (nits) or foot-lamberts with its Luminance Probe.

Type

Spectra PhoRad Photometer System is a completely portable hand-held, battery powered auto-ranging photometer for measuring luminance intensity in candelas per meter squared (cd/m²) or foot-lamberts (fl) with the Luminance Probe.

Light Sensor

Ultra-stable silicon photodiode, together with computer selected glass filters to match the spectral response of the human eye (the CIE 1931 photopic response function) V (?)

Measuring Principle

Contact measurement with the Luminance Probe placed directly on the surface to be measured.

Calibration

Calibration is traceable to the National Institute of Standard Technology (NIST), Washington D.C. Certified for one year.
